About Us

The ability to fly reasonable payloads cheaply to space and back on Masten Space Systems vehicles opens up interesting possibilities for the educational community to get classrooms' experiments INTO space and inspire kids to use their imaginations to reach for the stars. With the ability to fly a soda-can sized experiment for $250 - less money than can be raised in a typical fundraiser - Masten Space Systems makes space more tangible than ever before to K-12 students as well as college students.

K-12 Educators

  • Take the opportunity to teach about experiment design, experiment building, and results collecting.
  • Teach about the difference in suborbital and orbital spaceflight.
  • Benefit from curriculum developed by others for kids in your grade! Masten Space Systems is involved in building an open source set of curricula for K-12 educators to use to engage their students.
  • Give kids the "mission control" launch experience with live streamed video and access to official radio channels.
  • Learn which potential funding sources you can benefit from
    • American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Classroom Grants
    • Space Grant Consortium Grants
    • State specific funding sources

College Educators

  • Teach courses built entirely on experiment design and payload integration
  • Move beyond weather balloon experimentation to actually flying objects into limited gravity environments.
  • Provide hands-on experience for freshman or senior design courses - allowing students to not just design payloads on paper and write papers but actually build hardware and test integration, get result data and have quantifiable feedback for their resumes.
  • Provide an advanced mission control experience on flight day complete with telemetry data and other crucial second-by-second updates - OR - come watch your flight ascend to the heavens from the Mojave Air and Space port in Mojave, CA!
